If I had a Cent or better a Franc
For every person who after they drank
Imitated the Indian accent
(As if it was sexy to be Saxon)
I’d be richer than all these Swiss banks!
I come from a tropical land you see
A country that’s cottony balmy breezy
Then you put me on snow
And expect me to know
How to manage these blasted slippery skis!
Whoever is the genius who thought up these
Innovative ways to communally eat melted cheese:
Bless you good soul
For now I owe
You a very cramped stomach indeed!
Love it…I can so relate to this Sam! My students sometimes think it’s OK to talk in a sing song with an accent in between French and English to annoy their teacher. Where as the adults, well they have no clue where to place me…so I bet you’ll laugh when I say some think Seychelles is in India when I say it’s in the Indian Ocean.I get the weird look when I compare cranberry sauce on turkey to ‘jam on meat’ and say who eats jam on meat 🙂 They cannot understand when I resort to hibernation during winter because the excess melanin in my body refuse to cooperate with the cold 🙂 and demands tropical sunshine.

Ha! Yes, you’d win your bet because I did laugh. It’s funny how people think the Indian Ocean is just water till about 100km from the coast of India.
“I resort to hibernation during winter because the excess melanin in my body refuse to cooperate with the cold 🙂 and demands tropical sunshine.” – YES! Exactly. I am hibernating right now. Why else do you think I am able to make these many blog posts? If it was sunny and warm outside I’d not be at my laptop! I am growing fairer everyday and it’s so sad. I am almost beige now.

These made me smile. And who can resist a cheese fondue, notwithstanding the inevitable stomache aches?! 🙂

Sydney is great, I was a tourist guide yesterday, still a novelty for me to be on the water ferries after seven years! Strange seeing my teacher from 30 years ago, and once one gets past the exterior ageing, there are still mannerisms that one can remember from so many years ago!

I too get excited by ferries here after all these years. I think it’s difficult to outgrow the thrill of being on a boat, of conquering a new state of matter.

Maybe it is the limerick form, but every single one of these made me smile, while giving me a little insight into your life 🙂

I can promise in all sincerity that I’ve never tried on an Indian accent while either sober or drunk. I’m doing good to just speak American English given my pronounced Texas drawl.

Ha!
I am sorry to say I have “done” your accent once or twice, as a poor imitation of a dialogue from a movie. I like the Texan drawl. Really! 🙂

Texas speak is fun. And I’ve never been offended by non-Texans giving it a go.

Great! I wouldn’t mind it so much either except everyone thinks Indians sound like Appu from The Simpsons which gets rather annoying after a point.

Precious 🙂 I enjoyed this. Entertaining group of limericks. The first was good and I could relate (being an African in England) the second tickled me because there is a fair bit of head scratching involved when you leave warmer climes for a bit more of a chill.

I am happy you enjoyed them. An expat life is full of wonder isn’t it? At least that’s one way to look at it.
